ST. LOUIS—Women's Lacrosse kicked off the 2018 season in Shawnee, Oklahoma, as they took on the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University. The team faced a tough loss, falling to the Bison, 17-3.
The Bison kicked things off early, as OBU's Savannah Tompkins scored a goal less than one minute into the first half. Unfortunately for MBU, the Bison would go on to score 10 more goals before
Kimmi Mathews put the Spartans on the board. Missouri Baptist faced a 12 point deficit heading into the half.
Sophomore
Laura Ebers started the second half off on a promising note, as she quickly gave the Spartans their second goal of the match. Minutes after, Tompkins put up another goal for OBU, giving them another 11 point lead. After taking a Bison foul,
Katie Pilla was granted a free position shot, and answered back with the Spartans third goal of the game. However, it would also be their last as MBU eventually dropped the match by 15 points.
Ebers led the Spartans in ground balls with four total. In the draw controls category,
Pilla led the way with a total of three.
The next match for MBU will be Friday, February 23, when they take on the University of St. Mary (Kan.) at 2 pm. The 2018 home opener is scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, March 7. The match begins at 1 pm against Lindenwood University-Belleville.
