ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] A slow third quarter doomed Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball in Conway, Ark. on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans went back and forth with Central Baptist College for most of the day but the Mustangs won the third frame by seven on the way to a 57-50 victory.
Neither team could find breathing room in a turnover-filled first half. CBC turned it over 13 times in the opening quarter alone. The Spartan offense, however, shot just 42% as they took a 14-12 lead after one. The teams were tied at 26 at the half.
The third quarter would prove to be the difference when all was said and done. The Mustangs took the largest lead of the day at eight and eventually finished the frame ahead 45-38. MBU shot just 19% from the field (3-16) in the quarter.
The final quarter was another offensive challenge for both sides. Missouri Baptist went 4-15 from the field while CBC finished 4-10. The Spartans, ultimately, could not recover from the previous frame. CBC earned the win and a split in the season series.
Briya Wilborn and Alissa Rowden each reached double digits for the Spartans. Wilborn went for 12 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Rowden recorded 11 points and four rebounds.
Missouri Baptist is now 10-11 overall and 8-9 in the AMC. They'll travel to Hannibal on Tuesday night for a 5:30 pm tip.
