ST. LOUIS—[BOX GAME ONE] [BOX GAME TWO] MBU Softball completed its Florida spring break trip on Friday with 11-0 and 9-1 wins over Marywood University (Pa.).
Game one began with a four-run first for the Spartans. Megan Mollet doubled with one out and came home to score when Caitlin McNiff followed suit on a double of her own. Baleigh Koester and Megan Elder then launched back-to-back homeruns to make it 4-0.
After a scoreless second, Elder drove in her second and third runs of the day in the third. The junior doubled home McNiff and Jordan Corby for a 6-0 MBU lead.
It was 8-0 heading into the fifth before the Spartans tacked on three more. Walks and errors from Marywood allowed MBU to make it 11-0 without a ball leaving the infield.
Delissa Dennison earned the win with three and a third shutout innings. Ally Dunaway finished it off in the fourth and fifth.
The final game of the week started and finished much the same as the Spartans scored early and often. Caitlin McNiff continued to swing a scorching hot bat with two more homeruns plus a single. She finished the day on Friday a combined 5-5 with six RBIs.
The majority of the damage in game two was done in the second for MBU. Two singles, three doubles, and triple added up to five runs. They would put a bow on the week with three more in the fourth and the game would finish 9-1 after five innings.
Baleigh Koester earned the win with three shutout innings. She improved to 7-3 on the season.
The Spartans are now 13-6 overall. They continue conference play on Wednesday against Stephens College. The home opener is Thursday, March 22 against St. Mary of the Woods.
