SOFTBALL CONTINUES AMC CLIMB WITH SWEEP OF HANNIBAL

ST. LOUIS—[BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] Missouri Baptist Softball improved to 11-1 in their last 12 games with a sweep of AMC opponent, Hannibal-LaGrange, on Friday afternoon.

The first game of the day saw a combined seven hits from the two teams. MBU starter Baleigh Koester was dominant in the circle but was nearly matched step for step by Trojans hurler Jordyn Alford.

Meaghan Elder finally gave the Spartans a boost in the third when she delivered an RBI single that drove in Ally Gischer. They would add an insurance run in the sixth on a single to left off the bat of Ally Dunaway.

That would be all the help Koester needed to earn the win. She delivered a complete game shutout, allowing three hits while striking out five.

The freshman also took to the circle in game two and gave Missouri Baptist another solid outing. Hannibal would strike first with one run in the top of the third but the Spartans quickly responded in the bottom half. Meaghan Elder doubled to right center to score Caitlin McNiff and Ally Gischer. The RBIs were Elder seventh and eighth in the last four games.

The floodgates were opened from there as MBU scored three in the fourth and sixth sandwiched around two runs in the fifth. A three-run home run from Caitlin McNiff made it 5-1 in the fourth, Rachel Galbraith doubled home one in the fifth, and Baleigh Koester delivered a two-RBI single in the sixth. With the Spartans leading 9-2 with two outs in the sixth, Galbraith drew a walk with the bases loaded to enact the eight-run after five inning rule ending the game with a final of 10-2.

Missouri Baptist improved to 18-7 overall and 6-2 in the AMC. They'll take on Lindenwood-Belleville at home on Tuesday at 2 pm.
