ST. LOUIS—[BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] MBU Softball earned a split with William Woods in the AMC Game of the Week on Friday afternoon in Fulton, Mo.
The Spartan bats were stifled in game one, salvaging just two hits against Owls starter Allison Waskow. William Woods broke through for the only run of the game on MBU starter Baleigh Koester in the sixth inning. The home side held on for a 1-0 win.
It took until the fourth inning of the second game of the day before Missouri Baptist found their normal offensive stride. It started with an RBI single from Delissa Dennison in the fourth inning. A single from Ally Gischer made it 2-1.
The Spartans added two in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Sarah Langdon. Reily Kassay scored on an error on the play.
William Woods took a 5-4 lead in the bottom half before MBU took the last lead in the sixth. A double from Jordan Corby tied the game and a single from Meaghan Elder proved to be the game-winner. Koester, on in relief of starter Delissa Dennison, shut the door in the sixth and seventh.
The split leaves the Spartans with an overall record of 19-8 and an AMC record of 7-3. They return to action on Saturday at Park University. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
