ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Women's Lacrosse faced off with the University of Saint Mary Spires at Spartan Field for the first time this season. The game was pushed all the way to quadruple overtime, and the Spartans managed to come out on top. With this win, MBU moves to a season record of 2-5.
The first few minutes of the match were all MBU, as
Laura Ebers quickly put up two goals, followed by one from
Audrey Frost. The Spires managed to put a few in, but MBU increased their lead with a goal from
McKenna Fisher, and one more from Ebers. The Spartans led by two goals, heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Spartan offense continued to advance their lead (8-3). It appeared that MBU had this one in the bag that is until Saint Mary's offense regrouped and began to cruise past the Spartan defense (8-7). With minutes left, USM's Karissa Proctor tied things up at eight apiece, forcing the game into overtime.
There were three scoreless periods of overtime before Saint Mary's Kayla DeBlois fouled MBU's
Grace Adams, granting her an open net free position shot. It was then that Adams was able to end the match, giving the Spartans their second win of the 2018 season.
MoBap is back in action on Saturday, March 24 at CBC Stadium. They will take on the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees at 1 pm.
