SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH BETHEL

ST. LOUIS- [BOX GAME ONE] [BOX GAME TWO] Missouri Baptist Softball moved its overall record to 2-3 after splitting a doubleheader with Bethel University (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon.

Baleigh Koester got the start in game one and threw seven solid innings. The freshman allowed just two hits and one earned run. She struck out seven and walked two.

The offense spotted Koester a quick lead in the first. Ally Gischer led off with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Jordan Corby.

Bethel tied the game in the fourth but the Spartans responded immediately in the fifth. Caitlin McNiff reached on a leadoff double and later scored on an error by the third basemen.

That would be all the help Koester would need as she cruised through the final three innings to earn the win.

Game two was another tight contest. This time it was the Wildcats who struck first on Spartan starter Delissa Dennison. Casey Wade delivered an RBI single to score Iesha Kizer in the bottom of the third.

That lead didn't last long, however, as Baleigh Koester was at it again in the top of the fourth. The Carterville, Ill. native did the damage from the plate this time as she launched her first career home run to tie the game.

That would be the extent of the Spartan offense though as Bethel scored two in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the sixth to claim a 4-1 win.

Missouri Baptist will head to Springfield, Mo. on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Evangel University. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
