Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Karlye Jones

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CLAIMS TWO SWEEPS

ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist Women's Volleyball team extended their win streak to four on Friday. They faced off against Florida National, and tournament host, St. Thomas, sweeping both teams.

The first matchup of the day was against the Conquistadors of FNU. The Spartans immediately took the lead, with two quick kills from Mallory Moran and Aubrey Wilson. Statistically speaking, MBU dominated in all categories. However, Florida National's defense threatened the Spartan lead, as they stayed just a step behind throughout. The Spartans led by six points (22-16) when a kill from FNU gave them a chance at a comeback. Ultimately, it was to no avail as more kills from Moran and Wilson snagged set one for MBU (25-17).

Sets two and three proved to follow suit as the teams continued to stay neck and neck. However, they would also end up in MBU's favor thanks to tough defense and smart plays. The Spartans managed to stay ahead, claiming the sweep (25-20, 25-20).

The Spartans hit the court for their second match of the day with high energy, rolling through set one (25-14). St. Thomas gained momentum heading into the second set, but MBU proved to be too much, once again. The Spartan front line cranked out 12 kills, giving them set two (25-19). Missouri Baptist maintained momentum in their last set of the day, quickly sealing the deal, and taking another sweep (25-14).

The Spartans had a good showing all around, finishing with a team total of 80 kills, 99 digs, 19 service aces, and 12 blocks. Ana Oliveira led the team with a total of 17 kills and five aces.

Aubrey Wilson and Mallory Moran each finished with 12 kills, while Maggie Sorensen finished with 10 kills and eight blocks.

Libero Rachel Luebbers ran the back line, clocking out at 28 total digs.

The Spartans finish up in Florida on Saturday, August 24. Game times are set for 8 a.m., and 12 p.m. (CST).
