FULTON, MO.—Missouri Baptist women's soccer traveled to Fulton, Mo. on Tuesday night to kickoff conference play against William Woods. The Spartans held a late second half lead but the Owls earned the draw with a goal in the waning minutes.
The first half was short on offense. The Spartans managed just two shots on goal while the Owls forced MBU keeper
Jemica Artillaga to make just one save. Woods did have one opportunity from distance that caromed off the crossbar.
The intensity was turned up in the second half and it was the Spartans that broke the deadlock.
Allie Heinz played a long ball into Woods' territory and
Miranda Pratt won the footrace. The freshman executed a perfect chip over the Owls' keeper to give Missouri Baptist a 1-0 lead. It was Pratt's second goal in as many games.
After making six saves in 57 minutes,
Jemica Artillaga gave way to
Brooklynn Hamman in goal. Hamman helped maintain the one goal lead with several key stops. With four minutes remaining in regulation, however, the Owls' Shelby Scanlan found space just outside the MBU six yard box and beat Hamman with a well-placed strike to tie the game.
Neither team could find a go-ahead goal in two overtime periods and the season's first AMC contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Spartans are now 0-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play. They'll have another chance to breakthrough on Saturday when they travel to Stephens. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm in Columbia.
