ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer earned its first AMC win of 2018 on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman
Easton Jaromin's first half goal held up as the lone marker in a 1-0 victory for the Spartans over Williams Baptist University (Ark.).
The Spartans went in with a clear game plan and executed it to near perfection. The Williams Baptist squad, heavy on Brazilian born talent, was rarely given space to operate. The day's final shots on goal count read 6-4 in favor of the Eagles but the quality of chances heavily favored Missouri Baptist.
The best chance of the day for either side came in the 20
th minute of the first half.
Cullen Barr's shot from 25 yards out was tipped by WBU goalkeeper Alejandro Perez off the crossbar. The rebound fell into the path of
Easton Jaromin who slotted home to break the deadlock. It was the freshman's first goal as a Spartan.
MBU continued to hold its shape and deny Williams Baptist any legitimate scoring chances. Spartan goalkeeper
Davide Bucarelli only needed one save in the second half to earn his fifth clean sheet of the season. He finished the day with six saves in total.
"The boys came out ready today and worked our game plan well," noted Head Coach
Jake Alvernia. "This was a total team effort and I thought we deserved the win."
Senior defender
Jordan Lovell earned 'Man of the Match' recognition for his role in shutting down the Eagles' attack.
"Jordan did very well to organize our guys. He earned 'MOTM'," Alvernia said. "Easton [Jaromin] was also sharp and it showed on his goal where he was the first to react."
Missouri Baptist improves to 5-3-1 on the season with a 1-1-0 record in AMC play. Williams Baptist dropped to 3-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the AMC.
The Spartans' next challenge will be Central Baptist College (Ark.) Mustangs at home on Friday. Kickoff at Spartan Field is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
