ST. LOUIS—Nearly every Spartan got a piece of the action on Friday, as they took on AMC opponent Williams Baptist. Missouri Baptist cruised to their fourth consecutive sweep and 14
th straight win. They also still remain undefeated in conference play.
The first few points were traded among the teams, until the Eagles made a few errors, allowing MBU to get ahead (6-3). From then on, the Spartans managed to keep the lead, as they dished out several kills and service aces. A kill from
Mallory Moran put set one in the bag, 25-12.
The second and third set followed suit, as Missouri Baptist continued to dominate at the net and the service line. The team would finish the evening with a total 35 kills, six blocks, and 11 service aces. MBU took sets two and three, 25-11 and 25-11.
Maggie Sorensen led the Spartans in kills with a total of seven.
Hayley Richardson followed closely behind with six, while
Brilee Henson and
Sophia Cristiani finished with five each. Cristiani also led in the blocks category with four total, one being solo.
Sophomore
Samantha Kurm stepped in at the libero position, leading the match in digs with eight total. Senior
Kristen Williams served up five of the teams 11 service aces, while setter
Megan Huffman tacked on a match-leading 16 assists.
Missouri Baptist continues conference play next week, taking on St. Louis College of Pharmacy September 25 and Lindenwood-Belleville the following day. The Spartans return home on Friday, September 28 where they will take on the (RV) Braves of Ottawa University.
