SPARTANS ADVANCE TO 15 STRAIGHT WINS

ST. LOUIS—The No. 8 ranked Spartans continued conference play at St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Tuesday evening. After a sweep over the Eutectics, MBU advances to an overall record of 16-2, remaining perfect in the AMC (5-0), and pushing their win streak to 15.

Missouri Baptist rolled through set one with ease, dishing out 18 kills, doubling their opponents (6). The second set began in the Eutectics favor, as they quickly took a three-point lead. The teams traded possession back and forth, but College of Pharmacy later found themselves up, 15-10. However, a kill from Sophia Cristiani sparked a run in MBU, evening things out (15-15). After that, the Spartans managed to take the lead and stay there, picking up the second set, 25-17.

The third set was another close one as the teams battled it out. The teams eventually found themselves tied at 22 apiece, but two consecutive errors from the Eutectics and a service ace from Aubrey Wilson put MBU at game point (24-22). A kill from College of Pharmacy's Mackenzie Wagner gave them a fighting chance for a fourth set, but that was shut down after a kill from Maggie Sorensen sealed the dealt for MBU (25-23).

Junior Caterina Cigarini led the match in blocks and kills, with a total of eight (two solo), and 11 (.714 hitting percentage), respectively. Libero Rachel Luebbers led the back line with 14 digs, while setter Nicole Bott handed out 16 assists.

The Spartans continue conference play on the road on Wednesday, September 26. They will head to Belleville, Ill. to take on the Lynx of Lindenwood. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
