HANNIBAL, Mo.—Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer is starting to find its stride. The Spartans cruised to their third straight victory with a lopsided 3-0 defeat of Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday afternoon.
It was a dominant performance from the opening kickoff for MBU. The Spartans controlled the ball in or around the Hannibal penalty area for the majority of the day and it took just 13 minutes to open the scoring.
Allie Heinz took a pass from
Nicole Talley and let a long shot attempt fly. Trojan goalkeeper Madi Allen couldn't get a hand on it before it found the top left corner. It was the first goal of the season for the senior right back from Troy, Mo.
The Spartans continued to abuse the Hannibal penalty area but were held off the scoreboard until the 62
nd minute when a corner kick from
Maddie Mrazik was headed home by
Brianna Merchant. Two minutes later, Mrazik was involved again when she found space in the six-yard box and converted a pass from Heinz for her fourth goal of the year.
Missouri Baptist fired off a season-high 42 shots while not allowing the Trojans even a single attempt at the other end. Mrazik led the way with four on goal, while Heinz,
Hailey Hickerson,
Alexis Ferren all put two on target.
The Spartans (4-8-1, 4-2-1 AMC) will look to continue their winning streak when Stephens College comes to town on Saturday. Kickoff at Maryville University is scheduled for 1 pm.
