ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer saw its eight game unbeaten run end at the hands of No. 2 Columbia on Wednesday afternoon at Maryville Field. MBU is now 8-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the AMC. Columbia improved to 10-0 overall, 4-0 in the AMC.
The AMC's Game of the Week got off to a slow start with chances hard to come by for most of the first 40 minutes. Columbia finally registered the game's first shot on target in the 41
st minute. Unfortunately for the Spartans, it found the back of the net. A cross from Nick Brandt found Joe Spotanski who provided the finish for a 1-0 CC lead.
The Cougars would double the advantage five minutes after halftime off an MBU own goal. The two goal mountain would prove too much for the Spartans. They managed just one shot on goal in the second half.
The remaining 40 minutes was filled with infractions and bookings. 12 fouls and five yellow cards were handed out as things became increasingly chippy between the two rivals.
The Spartans will now try to get back on track on Saturday at Central Baptist College. Kickoff in Conway, Ark. is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
