WOMEN’S SOCCER EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO FIVE

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer stifled Lindenwood-Belleville for 90 straight minutes on Wednesday night in route to a 2-0 victory. MBU has now won five straight and sits 6-2-1 in the AMC—in sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the seventh minute thanks to a foul on Riley Janvrin in the Lynx penalty area. Nicole Talley stepped up and buried the PK to make it 1-0. It got even more favorable for the Spartans in the 29th minute after an LUB player was shown a straight red card for dissent.

Playing with the extra player from that point forward, Mo. Bap maintained the one-goal edge with a suffocating, lockdown defensive performance. The defense would eventually lead to more offense in the 62nd minute. Madi Dunahue tried a shot for the far post and, despite a diving save from the goalkeeper, the rebound landed in the path of Gianna Gore. Gore took a touch and tapped home her fourth goal of the year for a two-goal advantage.

The Spartans didn't let up in the final half hour and held on for their fifth straight win. Jemica Artillaga made two saves in goal to extend the team's shutout streak to 466 minutes.

Missouri Baptist (6-8-1, 6-2-1 AMC) will return home for senior day on Saturday against Freed-Hardeman (7-5, 6-3 AMC). The senior day presentation will take place at 11:45 pm with kickoff to follow at noon.
