ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer celebrated senior day on Saturday with a 5-0 dismantling of Freed-Hardeman (7-6, 6-4 AMC) at Spartan Field. Now with 22 points, the Spartans have elevated all the way up into third place in the AMC standings with two games left in the regular season.
With rain falling sideways and temperatures topping out in the high 40s, the setting wasn't exactly how the Spartans' eight seniors drew up their last regular season home game. The conditions did become slightly more favorable though when
Riley Janvrin put the home side on the board less than eight minutes into the first half.
Hannah Leahy played a pass into the penalty area where Janvrin got a touch on it. The senior chipped it over a Lady Lions' defender into space and then blasted it home past FHU goalkeeper Holly Moore. Janvrin's fourth of the year made it 1-0.
The Spartans continued to put the pressure on but went into the half with the same one-goal advantage. It was after the restart that the goals would start to come in bunches. Four MBU goals in an 11 minute stretch left the visiting Lady Lions' in a tail spin.
It started with a second goal from Janvrin in the 50
th minute off a cross to the back post by
Maddie Mrazik. Three minutes later,
Nicole Talley played a ball over the top and
Madi Dunahue ran onto to it for a breakaway. The former Incarnate Word Academy standout converted for her first of the day and a 3-0 Mo. Bap lead. Dunahue added a second goal in the 58
th minute and then finished off her first career hat trick four minutes after that. Mrazik assisted on both goals bringing her total for the day to three.
Head Coach
Deno Merrick was able to use his entire bench in the final 30 minutes and the Spartans cruised over the finish line with a 5-0 victory.
Jemica Artillaga made six saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season.
Missouri Baptist is now 7-8-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the AMC. Next on the schedule is a trip to Williams Baptist (3-10-1, 2-7-1 AMC) in Walnut Ridge, Ark. on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
