WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer continued its ascent up the AMC standings on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over Williams Baptist. The Spartans now head into the final regular season match with 25 points, assuring them a home playoff game on November 8.
Just as they did on Saturday against Freed-Hardeman, the Spartans got off to another fast start on Tuesday.
Maddie Mrazik headed home a cross from
Allie Heinz in the fourth minute to kickstart the scoring. Seven minutes later, a through ball from
Riley Janvrin to
Madi Dunahue led to a chance for the reigning AMC Offensive Player of the Week. Dunahue made no mistake with the finish for a 2-0 MBU lead.
Mrazik netted her second of the game in the 24
th minute, her sixth of the year, off a cross from
Miranda Pratt. Williams Baptist would pull one back before halftime to make it 3-1. The goal ended a shutout streak for the Spartans dating back seven games and over 500 minutes.
The Spartans reestablished control of the match in the second half, holding the Eagles without a shot attempt. They would seal it for good in the 82
nd minute.
Nicole Talley accepted a short corner pass from Mrazik and lined a shot from outside the box into the top corner. It was the fourth of goal of the year for the senior and the team-leading eighth assist of season for the freshman, Mrazik.
The victory completed the long journey back to a .500 record for Missouri Baptist. After starting 0-7, the Spartans are now 8-8-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the AMC. They'll take a seven-game winning streak into their last ever regular season AMC matchup with Park on Saturday. The Pirates are departing the AMC for the Heart of America conference at the end of this season. Kickoff in Parkville is scheduled for 12 pm.
