WOMEN’S SOCCER KNOCKS OFF PARK IN OVERTIME

PARKVILLE, Mo. – A goal in the 97th minute from freshman Madi Dunahue gave Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer a 2-1 OT win over Park on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans finish the regular season in third place in the AMC standings and will meet Lindenwood-Belleville next Friday in the AMC Quarterfinals.

For the fifth straight game, the Spartans opened the scoring inside 10 minutes. Nicole Talley fed Maddie Mrazik at the top of the box and the freshman lofted a shot over the head of Pirates' goalkeeper Amy Roskell. It was Mrazik's seventh goal of the year and team-leading 23rd point.

The remainder of the first half was well-balanced with opportunities for both teams. Park turned the attack up in the second half and had the Spartans' on their heels. The Pirates would eventually tie the game in the 58th minute. Jemica Artillaga got a hand on a shot from Abby Groom and deflected it off the crossbar. The rebound fell to Park's leading scorer Lenvix Ochieng who finished it off.

Park had a prime chance to take the lead in the 77th minute. Ochieng went down in the box leading to a penalty kick for Groom. But Groom was again denied by the crossbar and the match remained tied at one.

The Pirates would rue the missed opportunity as the Spartans cashed in six minutes into the first sudden death overtime. A cross from Miranda Pratt found Madi Dunahue alone in the box. With plenty of time and space, the freshman blasted home from close range to give the Spartans' the win.

Missouri Baptist finishes the regular season 9-8-1 overall (after starting 0-7) and 9-2-1 in the AMC. With Saturday's result, the Spartans tied the 1997 team with eight consecutive wins.

The result also means the Spartans have secured the No. 3 seed in the AMC Postseason Tournament. They will meet Lindenwood-Belleville in the Quarterfinals next Friday, November 8. Time and location are still to be determined. Keep an eye on MBUSpartans.com and follow @MBUAthletics on twitter for the latest updates.
