ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Missouri Baptist football fell 28-13 to the Olivet Nazarene Tigers on Saturday after difficulties scoring in the red-zone. The Spartans drop their fifth game of the season despite accumulating more first downs (25), passing yards (309), and offensive yards (395), while only converting one of four red-zone opportunities.
The Spartan offense was suppressed in the first two quarters. Olivet Nazarene took the opportunity and built an early 21-point lead that began with LaShaun Rule's two-yard rushing touchdown. The rush capped off a 15 play, 69-yard drive to begin the game. The Tigers tacked on more in the second with a pair of touchdowns from Jayvion Daniels and Brian Jenkins.
MBU found the end zone late in the first half with a 48-yard touchdown reception from
Isaiah King, his 4
th touchdown of the season. The Tigers led the Spartans 21-7 at halftime.
The defense stepped up in a huge way in the second half allowing only one touchdown to the Tigers. Unfortunately for the home team, they were only able to muster up one more scoring drive on
Jordan Benavides' first career Spartan touchdown.
Isaiah King was a major cog in the Spartan offense Saturday, catching seven passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. The senior has played at a high level the last two games posting 17 receptions, 296 yards, and three touchdowns.
On defense,
Joey Morones once again led the team in tackles with 11. The secondary also played a strong game, breaking up four Tiger passes.
Missouri Baptist football travels up to Deerfield, Illinois on Saturday to take on the Trinity International Trojans in another MSFA Midwest matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
