ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Baptist football dropped its third straight game and eighth of the season to the visiting Robert Morris University Eagles on Saturday. The Spartans found themselves in a six-point deficit heading into halftime and were never able to climb their way back.
This MSFA Midwest matchup got off to a relatively slow start with both teams exchanging field goals in the first half. The Spartans trailed 6-0 on a pair of field goals from Omar Beltran until
Collin Black split the uprights with a 35-yard field goal with 3:25 remaining in the second.
Beltran snuck in one more score before the half to push the Eagle lead to 9-3.
RMU struck again early in the third quarter on a 62-yard touchdown run from Ke'von Johnson. Beltran nailed home the extra point to widen the gap to 16-3.
The Spartans answered right back with a touchdown of their own. Freshman punter turned quarterback
Josh Munn hit
Anthony Taele for a 51-yard pass that set the stage for a 17-yard touchdown run from
Chris Baldwin to make the score 16-10.
Unfortunately for the home crowd, this is the closest that the Spartans would get to making a comeback as MBU fell with a 25-13 final score.
Freshman punter/quarterback
Josh Munn impressed on Saturday with 274 passing yards in an emergency role after a pair of injuries. He paired his passing performance with five punts for 152 yards.
Isaiah King continued his huge senior campaign with five receptions for 122 yards that put him over the 3,000 career receiving yards mark. King is the first receiver in school history to reach the lofty milestone.
Darian Pollion also had a strong showing with four receptions for 90 yards.
On defense, the Spartans were led by
Joey Morones,
Donovan Baldwin, and
Collin Thomas who combined for 25 tackles (13 solos) and 5.5 tackles for a loss.
The football season wraps up with senior day on Saturday against Walsh University at CBC Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
