Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Karlye Jones

SPARTANS CLAIM SWEEP NO. 7

ST. LOUIS—Men's volleyball hit the road for a three-game trip in Sioux City, Iowa. They first saw the Defenders of Dordt College (Iowa), claiming yet another sweep.

The first set started off on a rough patch for both sides, as several errors kept the score close. Tied at seven each, a service error from the Defenders gave MBU possession. Errors would continue to plague Dordt as four consecutive mistakes followed by a kill from Steven Rodriguez prompted a Defender timeout (12-7). The Spartans managed to stay on top from there, taking set one 25-20.

The second set kicked off much different from the last as the Spartans quickly rolled out to a nine-point lead (9-0). The Defenders tried for a comeback, but it was to no avail. MBU proved to be too much as they claimed set two, 25-17.

Dordt found their groove heading into set three as the teams went point for point early one. The score was tied at seven, once again, when a kill from Luka Cajic prompted another Spartan run. They were up by four when Dordt utilized another timeout. A combination of several kills on top of errors from the Defenders ultimately allowed MBU to take their sixth consecutive sweep.

Steven Rodriguez led the match in the kills category, finishing with a total of nine. Luka Cajic (.571 attack percentage) and Cameron Hibbler (.500 attack percentage) followed closely behind with eight and seven, respectively.

Setter Jason Harman put up 32 assists, and also led the defensive effort with nine total digs.

The No. 2 Spartans continue conference play on Friday evening. They will head to Morningside College to take on the Mustangs at 7 p.m.
