ST. LOUIS—The Spartans kicked off the 2019 season on the road. They traveled to Kentucky to take on the (RV) Knights of Marian University (Ind.). MBU faced a tough loss, as the Knights defeated them, 17-2.
Marian wasted no time, as they gained control and scored their first goal just seconds into the half. The Knights would score four more before Missouri Baptist's
Audrey Frost was granted a free position shot, finally putting MBU on the board (5-1). Several turnovers allowed Marian to push their lead further, while the Spartans would remain scoreless through the half. The Knights led by nine heading into the half (10-1).
The Knights carried their momentum into the second half, continuing to move past the Spartans. Frost put up another goal for MBU, but it would not be enough to keep up with Marian. Missouri Baptist dropped the contest by 15.
Freshman
Jordan Haeusser led the Spartans in draw controls and ground balls, finishing with a total of three and four, respectively.
Junior
Audrey Frost scored MBU's two goals, while 2018 All-American goalie
Kaitlin Mills put up an impressive 11 saves.
The Spartans close out their time in Kentucky on Saturday, March 2. They will take on the Asbury University (Ky.) Eagles at 11 a.m.
