ST. LOUIS—The Spartans squared off with the Pilots of Bethel College (Ind.) in Saturday's home opener. Goalie
Kaitlin Mills earned a total of 16 saves in MBU's win over the Pilots.
It was a scoreless game nearly ten minutes into the first half, with each side dishing out their fair share of turnovers. After a missed free position shot,
Maggie McDaniel regained control for MBU. The junior handed the ball to freshman
Jordan Haeusser for the first goal of the match.
Audrey Frost would put in two more for the Spartans before the half, as they led by two heading into the break (3-1).
The Spartans carried their momentum over into the second half, with
Sameera Hammad and
Jordan Haeusser pushing their lead even further (6-1). The Pilots managed a few more goals but were ultimately outscored by MBU. The Spartans went on to claim victory, 9-4.
Ashley Avery scooped up seven groundballs, while freshman
Ellie DuBroc led the contest in caused turnovers with four.
Jordan Haeusser and
Audrey Frost earned the most goals for either team, each putting three past Bethel's keeper.
The Spartans hit the road on Wednesday, March 20. They will go head to head with Missouri Valley at 4 p.m.
