SPARTANS GO UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE PLAY

ST. LOUIS—The No. 1 Spartans hosted the (7) Ottawa University (Kan.) Braves on Wednesday evening. It was a 3-0 sweep for MBU on senior night; 25-14, 25-16, 25-21. With this win, the Spartans finish conference play with a record of 11-0.

Ottawa took the lead early on in set one, 3-1. The Spartans quickly recuperated, however, answering back with two service aces from Miljan Kastratovic and a kill from Luka Cajic to take the lead (6-3). MBU continued to push their lead, as their front line proved to be too much for the Braves. The Spartans cruised to an 11-point first set win (25-14).

Missouri Baptist continued to play smart, as they rolled out to a comfortable lead in set two. The Spartans led by nine (16-7) when the Braves called for their first timeout. Ottawa would regain possession out of the break, but a kill from Cameron Hibbler followed by more service aces from Kastratovic pushed the Spartans further ahead (19-10). They'd go on to take the second set, 25-16.

The Braves gained momentum in the third set, giving the Spartans a run for their money, staying right on their tail. MBU led by four when a Spartan error allowed the Braves to go on a run, and close the deficit by one (21-20). After an MBU timeout, Luka Cajic put down a kill to give MBU the ball, once again (22-20). Another kill from Cajic eventually set up match-point for MBU. An error from the Braves sealed the win for the Spartans, 25-21.

Outside hitter Luka Cajic led the evening in kills with a total of 12 (.455 attack percentage). Senior Cameron Hibbler also had a notable performance. The middle blocker put down seven kills on eight attempts, with no errors (.875 attack percentage).

Libero Colton Inman led the match in digs, earning seven total, while setter Brenden Stealey put up 37 assists.

The Spartans close out the regular season on the road. They head to Lincoln College on Thursday, March 28 to take on the Lynx at 7 p.m.
