ST. LOUIS—Men's volleyball hosted Briar Cliff University (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon. After three close sets, the Spartans managed their third sweep of the weekend. With this win, they advance to a record of 22-0 (10-0).
As expected, the teams went point for point early on. Kills from
Miljan Kastratovic gave MBU a slight lead, and from there, they stayed ahead. Another kill from Kastratovic put MBU at game point, and an error from BCU granted the Spartans set one, 25-21.
The Spartans rolled out to a quick lead in set two, however, errors allowed the Chargers to come back within one (8-7). MBU quickly recuperated, gaining back possession, but Briar Cliff stayed right on their tail. More Spartan errors eventually evened things out at 12-12. From there, it was a game of back and forth. A kill from
Luka Cajic put MBU at set point, and another BCU error granted the Spartans set two, 25-23.
The Chargers gained momentum heading into set three, as the score remained tight throughout. The teams were tied seven times until two kills from Cajic and an ace from Kastratovic gave them an advantage (12-9). The teams continued to battle it out, but MBU continued to push just ahead. A kill from
Jack Huizinga put MBU at match-point when an error from the Chargers gave the Spartans their third consecutive sweep, 25-19.
Outside hitter
Luka Cajic led the match in kills by a landslide, earning 18 total.
Setter
Jason Harman tacked on 35 more assists to his season total of 765, while libero
Colton Inman led the match in digs with a total of 14.
The undefeated Spartans have a week off for Spring break, but return action at the Petty SRC on Thursday, March 21. They host Lindenwood-Belleville at 7 p.m.
