ST. LOUIS—Women's lacrosse traveled to Ottawa, Kansas to take on the (RV) Braves on Saturday. A quick start for Ottawa University would play to their advantage, allowing them to take one from the Spartans. This loss evens out the Spartans season record, 5-5.
Just a minute into the contest, the Braves put one past the Spartans to take the lead. MBU's
Ashley Avery was awarded a free position shot, evening things out shortly after (1-1). Ottawa would go on to score three more before
Maggie McDaniel tabbed another for the Spartans (2-4). Missouri Baptist managed a few more but trailed by six heading into the half (4-10).
The second half got off to a good start, as
Madison Turnbeaugh and
Sameera Hammad closed MBU's deficit to four (6-10). From there, however, the game slowed down. There were nearly 15 scoreless minutes for each team until Ottawa came alive, pushing their lead by four (14-6).
Audrey Frost put up two more for MBU, but it would not be enough for them to catch the Braves. The Spartans ultimately fell, 14-8.
Audrey Frost and
Sameera Hammad led the Spartans in goals, each scoring two. Hammad also earned five ground balls and one draw control.
The Spartans close out the 2019 season on Saturday, April 20. They will host University of Saint Mary (Kan.) for Senior Day at Spartan Field.
