ST. LOUIS—MBU Men's Soccer continued to roll with a 5-0 road win over Harris-Stowe on Tuesday. The Spartans have won four straight and are 5-1-1 on the season. Next up will be the AMC Game of the Week on Saturday vs. William Woods. Kickoff at Maryville Field is scheduled for 5 pm. A live broadcast will be available on the Spartan Digital Network.
FIRST HALF
After a slow start where they conceded two early shots to the Hornets, the Spartans settled in and controlled the opening half. Shortly after the half hour mark,
Richie Taylor redirected a corner kick off the underside of the crossbar.
Taylor's chance would prove to be a preview of what was to come. The visitors continued to control possession as the half wound down. With less than 20 second to play, the Hornets' conceded another corner and the Spartans'
Mattia Giangrande had just enough time to send it into the box. After Taylor kept the play alive on the far post,
Nico Tossici outjumped his opponent and delivered a thundering header finish with under a second left on the clock. The sudden sequence of events sent Mo. Bap into the break ahead 1-0.
SECOND HALF
The last second goal in the first half seemed to take the life out of Harris-Stowe. Four minutes after the restart, a
Jona Oesterling free kick left a rebound laying on the doorstep.
Cullen Barr swooped in to clean it up. Barr's sixth of the season made it 2-0.
The Spartans really started to pour it on in the last half hour.
Louie Perez netted his second of the season in the 65
th minute and added another tally six minutes later, off a perfect long ball pass from
Richie Taylor. Three minutes after that,
Antonio Bussu finished off the scoring with the first of his career, with another assist going to Oesterling.
The Spartans launched 28 shot attempts on the Harris-Stowe goal, 18 of which came in the second half.
Davide Bucarelli needed only three saves to earn win in goal for MBU.
