ST. LOUIS— MBU Women's Soccer dropped a 2-1 overtime decision on Tuesday afternoon on the road at Harris-Stowe. The search for win number one will continue into Saturday when William Woods comes to town. Kickoff at Maryville Field is scheduled for 2 pm. The live broadcast will be available at SpartanDigitalNetwork.com.
FIRST HALF
The Spartans had the game's first four shot attempts, three of which required quality saves from Harris-Stowe goalkeeper Camila Chaves. The Hornets would find their footing at the offensive end though and ended up out-chancing MBU 10-5 in the opening half.
After 40 scoreless minutes, the home side finally struck first. The Hornets' Johanna Walstab beat
Jemica Artillaga with a perfectly placed free kick to the bottom right corner and the Spartans would go into the half down a goal.
SECOND HALF
Missouri Baptist turned the pressure up in the second and it didn't take long to find the equalizer. In the 54
th minute, a hand ball just outside the top of the Harris-Stowe box led to a dangerous free kick.
Madison Dodd stepped up and buried her first career goal into the upper left corner to tie the game at one.
The Spartans had multiple chances in the final half hour to take the lead but Camila Chaves was a one-woman wall for the Hornets. The junior made five saves in the second half to preserve the 1-1 tie.
OVERTIME
The missed opportunities would eventually come back to bite the Spartans. A corner kick five minutes into overtime resulted in chaos in the MBU penalty area. Malou Hagedorn eventually got a foot on it and poked home the game-winner.
The final shot count was 15-14 in favor of Harris-Stowe.
Jemica Artillaga made four saves in goal for the Spartans.
