BARR’S LATE GOAL STEALS IT FOR MEN’S SOCCER

ST. LOUIS— Cullen Barr scored with just over two minutes left in regulation to give Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer a 2-1 victory over Graceland (Iowa) on Friday. MBU is now 3-1-1 on the season.

The Yellowjackets opened the scoring in the second minute when Rafael Yegros beat Davide Bucarelli for his team-leading third goal of the season. The Spartans, however, didn't take long to respond. In the fourth minute, Brandon Boos was pulled down inside the Graceland box. Richie Taylor stepped forward to take the penalty and calmly slotted it home to tie the game.

The match would go into halftime at 1-1 and neither side saw many opportunities after the opening stretch. With three minutes left in regulation, Graceland had two shots on goal in the second half to MBU's one.

The breakthrough would come in the 88th minute when Brandon Boos found enough space just inside the top of the box to let a shot go. Yellowjackets' goalkeeper Daniel Orozco made the save but spilled it directly into the path of Cullen Barr. MBU's star sophomore cleaned up the rebound to give Missouri Baptist a 2-1 edge. It was Barr's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The remaining two minutes expired without incident and MBU earned its second consecutive win. The final shots on goal count finished at four apiece.

Missouri Baptist will now have a full week off before traveling to Pulaski, Tenn. to meet Martin Methodist on September 14. The Spartans return home on September 21 for an AMC matchup against William Woods.
