ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer showed more signs of life on Friday afternoon but still fell 1-0 to Graceland at Tony Glavin Soccer Complex in St. Peters.
The Spartans once again controlled the play for long stretches of the first half.
Madison Dodd had the best chance of the day for MBU in the 15
th minute. The junior maneuvered around a Yellowjackets defender and found herself with a semi-breakaway. But Dodd's shot rang off the near post and the rebound was cleared away for a corner.
Graceland found their game after that and goalkeeper
Jemica Artillaga had to be at her best for the Spartans. The senior made five saves to keep the game scoreless before Megan Kimrey finally beat her with a well-placed strike just inside the crossbar in the 40
th minute.
Missouri Baptist was back on the front foot in the second half, outshooting Graceland 11-5. Lauriane Castonguay made three saves for Graceland while several other chances narrowly missed high or wide. Ultimately, the Yellowjackets hung on and moved to 3-1 on the season.
The Spartans fell to 0-4 but will have a quick turnaround and another chance to right the ship on Saturday. They'll travel to Indianapolis for a 1 pm CST kickoff with (RV) Marian University (6-0).
