ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Baptist men's volleyball pushed their current winning streak nine on Tuesday evening with a sweep of Missouri Valley College. The Spartans' sixth sweep of the 2020 season was led by strong offense from numerous players and seven team service aces.
The Vikings made things tough on the Spartans in the first set as the two teams kept pace with one another until the scoreboard showed 20-19 in favor of the Spartans.
Luka Cajic extended the lead with a kill and continued the run with two service aces and several strong serves that finished off the Vikings 25-19.
MBU found themselves down 10-7 early in the second set. They went on to take the lead six plays later on a Viking attack error and did not surrender the lead for the remainder of the set, taking a commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-20 win.
The third set was utter dominance from the Spartans. Good team play, strong defense, and several service aces gave the home team a convincing 25-15 victory and a 3-0 sweep over the Vikings.
"In men's volleyball, you know, you're going to have guys that are able to put the volleyball away. They definitely have a lot of those guys, but ball control tonight was probably our key," said head coach
Tom Young.
Luka Cajic led the team in kills on Tuesday with
Miljan Kastratovic and
Mario Lucas on his heels with nine kills each. The reigning NAIA National Setter of the Week,
Jason Harman, collected 29 assists and two service aces while
Skyler Capllonch brought the defense with 13 digs.
After the postponement of what would have been a 3 p.m. match tomorrow against Ottawa University, the Spartans' next game is set for Friday, February 7 against Clarke University in the Judson University Invitational.
