OTTAWA, Kan. – Missouri Baptist sophomore
Karoline Ortiz went undefeated and captured an individual title, while two other Spartan women's wrestlers brought home third-place finishes on Saturday at the Ottawa University EZ Flex Invitational.
Building off her All-American performances at the UWW Junior and U23 Nationals in November, sophomore
Karoline Ortiz went 3-0 including a pair of wins over ranked opponents to take home the title at 130 pounds. Oritz, who was also ranked in the latest NAIA poll at No. 16, started off the day with a win by tech fall over Waldorf's Jenny Castaneda. Perhaps the biggest win for Ortiz came in the semifinals as she defeated 5
th-ranked Isabella Gonzalez of Grand View University by tech fall, 18-8. To cap it off, in the first-place match, the sophomore from Orlando, Fla. won with a 6-4 decision over No. 18 Ashley Venegas from Missouri Valley.

Jessica Corredor and
Shania Gowan – also had strong performances on Saturday. Corredor and Gowan both recorded three wins and earned third-place finishes for the Spartans.
At 116 pounds,
Jessica Corredor started off with a win by tech fall over Emily Fergeson, 12-2, before suffering her first and only loss to Grand View's Emma Cochran, who currently ranks No. 4 in the 109-weight class. Corredor won by tech fall over JoNiesha Kennedy (Ottawa) before picking up her second win over 12
th-ranked Emily Fergeson (York) in the consolation final.
In the 170-pound bracket, redshirt freshman
Shania Gowan lost a close 4-2 decision in the quarterfinals to No. 2-ranked Jennifer Curry of Baker University, before winning her next three matches. Following the quarterfinals, Gowan went without yielding a point to her competitors by defeating Hannah Dickinson (Ottawa), 10-0, No. 9 Kiya Jones (Baker), 10-0, and Jennifer Curry by forfeit.
Other Spartans competing on Saturday included freshmen
Jordan Roberts (1-2) at 170, Sydnee McGhee (0-2) at 116, and
Lindsay Mills (0-2) at 130.
