HANNIBAL, Mo. –
Louie Perez scored a clutch 72
nd minute goal to lead Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer (5-6-1, 2-1-1 AMC) past Hannibal-LaGrange (4-5-1, 0-2-1 AMC) on Wednesday afternoon. The win extends the Spartans' unbeaten streak to four games.
After the opening kickoff was delayed two hours due to an issue with the officials, the Spartans proceeded to dominate possession from the get-go. They out chanced the Trojans 6-2 in the first half.
The constant pressure finally paid off with just over 15 minutes to go in the second half.
Matteo Uez played
Brandon Burton into space and the senior delivered a cross into the six-yard box.
Louie Perez was on the other end of it to hit a side volley that dipped under the cross bar. Perez's fifth goal of the season proved to be just enough.
The Spartans held Hannibal to just four shots on goal. Led by a strong backline and solid goalkeeping from graduate senior
Wessel Berenschot, MBU has now kept a clean sheet in four of the last six games.
"The boys were brilliant today," noted Head Coach
Jake Alvernia. "We controlled the play and created good chances. Hannibal is always tough, so this was a good three points."
The Spartans will now have a rare Saturday off before heading to Harris-Stowe (9-3, 2-2 AMC) next Wednesday. Start time is scheduled for 3 pm.
