ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer (7-6, 5-0 AMC) won its fifth straight AMC game on Saturday night – a 2-0 victory over Stephens College (Mo.) at Spartan Field. Now just past the midway point of the conference schedule, the Spartans are tied with No. 14 Columbia with 15 points at the top of the AMC table.
The Spartans dominated possession for the first 30 minutes on Saturday night but had trouble generating scoring chances. They finally registered their first shot on goal in the 32
nd minute and it just happened to find the back of the net.
Gianna Gore played in
Madi Dunahue and Dunahue sidestepped the goalkeeper and converted into an open goal.
After maintaining the one-goal advantage through halftime,
Skyla Koch delivered an insurance goal five minutes into the second period. From her own half, center back
Jamie Theusch sent a long ball into space and Koch won a footrace to it for a breakaway. The sophomore provided a cool finish for her first goal of the season and a 2-0 MBU lead.
The Spartans were outshot 7-6 but goalkeeper
Hanna Harrison was in control making all seven saves for her third clean sheet of the season.
The next test on the schedule may be the toughest one yet for the Spartans. They'll travel to Harris-Stowe (11-1, 4-1 AMC) on Wednesday. Start time is scheduled for 1 pm at Hornets Field.
