ST. LOUIS— Freshman
Claire Andersen scored a game-tying goal in the 90
th minute but MBU Women's Soccer (7-7, 5-1 AMC) eventually fell in double OT to Harris-Stowe (12-1, 5-1 AMC) on Wednesday afternoon. It was the first AMC loss of the season for the Spartans.
After falling behind 1-0 in the 24
th minute, the Spartans settled and dominated possession for most of the second half. The finishing was not quite on point though and the deficit persisted into the final minute of regulation.
Finally, off a short corner kick in the 90
th minute,
Madi Dunahue's cross into the box found
Claire Andersen. The freshman headed it home to send the match into overtime.
One 10-minute extra period wasn't enough but in the second OT, the Hornets found the winner. Harris-Stowe's Rachael Manly let a shot go from long range that dipped into the top corner, out of the reach of MBU keeper
Lindzey Morrison.
The Spartans have three regular season AMC contests left. Next up is a home date with William Woods (8-4-1, 4-2 AMC) on Saturday at Spartan Field. Start time is scheduled for 4 pm.
