ST. LOUIS—MBU Men's Soccer dominated in a 5-0 victory over the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy (UHSP) on Saturday night at Spartan Field. Two early first half goals were followed by three more in the second half to give the Spartans their first AMC win of the season.
Just over five minutes into the first half,
Nicolo Tossici put the Spartans on the board.
Jack Carney's cross to the far post was one-timed home by the Italian to make it 1-0. Barely two minutes later,
Nathan Brock doubled the lead on a free kick from 25 yards out. It was Brock's first goal in an MBU uniform.
The offense then fell silent for a stretch before
Rasmus Svensson reignited things in the 55
th minute. Carney found the Swiss-born forward at the top of the penalty area and Svensson let a shot go from just outside the six-yard box. It beat UHSP goalkeeper Alec Johnson to the far post for his second goal in as many games.
Svensson and Carney both assisted on the Spartans' fourth goal, a breakaway converted by
Louie Perez in the 59
th minute.
Matteo Uez finally capped off the goal-fest in the 70
th minute when he was played in on break by
Brandon Burton. It was Uez's first career goal.
The Spartans outshot UHSP 13-1.
Jack Carney finished with three assists while
Reece Kral had two. Carney also had a team-high three shots on goal.
"Good performance from the guys tonight," noted Head Coach
Jake Alvernia. "Important to get our first three points in the league. We were good going forward today and Jack [Carney] had a lot to do with it. He was 'Man of the Match'. He was brilliant."
The Spartans improve to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the aforementioned AMC. Next on the schedule is a trip to Central Baptist College (5-6, 1-0 AMC) next Saturday. Kickoff in Conway, Ark. is scheduled for 3 pm.
