ST. LOUIS—MBU Women's Soccer (7-8, 5-2 AMC) lost an AMC game at Spartan Field for the first since 2017 on Saturday night. The stretch of 15 straight was snapped by William Woods (9-4-1, 5-2 AMC) with a 2-1 defeat.
 
Offense was tough to come by for both sides, but it was the Owls who converted on their chances early in the second half. It took 50 minutes for the game's first shot on goal and it found the bottom corner of the net off the foot of McKenzie Gourley. Five minutes later, an MBU turnover led to another marker for the Owls to double the lead.
 
The Spartans' comeback attempt had a glimmer of hope in the 74^th minute. After a foul at midfield, center back Madie Gentry blasted a 55-yard free kick as far as she could. William Woods' GK Belle Boschert misjudged it and the ball took a big bounce over her head and under the crossbar. Gentry's second of the year -- one of the strangest goals of the season -- made it 2-1.
 
The Spartans couldn't find an equalizer in the final 15 minutes though and dropped their second straight contest after a 5-0 AMC start. They'll look to right the ship on Tuesday at Williams Baptist before ending the regular season at home against No. 13 Columbia next Saturday.
