TIGERS HAND SPARTANS THEIR FIFTH STRAIGHT LOSS

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Baptist football dropped their fifth consecutive contest on Saturday afternoon, losing 37-16 on the road against 19th-ranked Olivet Nazarene University.

After opening the scoring with a 37-yard field goal from Odaine Reid, the Tigers responded with 30 consecutive points. The Spartans made a late push with a pair of rushing touchdowns, but their comeback bid fell short, dropping their record to 3-5 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-States Football Association.

The Tigers received the opening kickoff hoping to get on the board first, but the MBU defense had other things in mind. After two incompletions, ONU quarterback Cameron Crouch rushed it close to a first down but was denied by junior linebacker Kohl Williams.

After the punt, the Spartans put together a scoring drive finished by a 37-yard field goal from Odaine Reid.

The ONU offense responded on the next drive with a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead. They then extended their lead on MBU's second drive when Patryk Ryczek returned an interception for a touchdown.

The Spartan offense did not answer until late in the third quarter, down 30-3. MBU found momentum and pushed the ball to the Tiger 45 yard line. Ronald Allen took a handoff from there and ran it 45 yards into the endzone for his seventh touchdown of the year.

MBU scored again early in the fourth quarter after Darius Morrison ate up most of the field with a 65-yard rush, tackled down at the Olivet 12 yard line. He was then handed the ball on the following three carries, ending what he had started with a one-yard touchdown.

The comeback bid would fall short, however, as the Tigers tacked on one more touchdown with 3:23 remaining in the fourth to send the Spartans to their fifth consecutive loss.

Allen and Morrison had standout games on offense, rushing for a combined 179 yards on 16 carries for two touchdowns. Josh Munn had a rough day under center, getting sacked two times, hurried seven times, and limited to just 89 passing yards.

Defensively, Jaylen Cowley led the team in tackles once again, while Rakweon Ramsey continued to get into the backfield with 1.5 sacks. Joe King also had a notable day with six tackles and two tackles for a loss.

Next on the schedule is a divisional matchup on the road against Trinity International University on October 23. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Deerfield, Illinois.
