ST. LOUIS—
Richie Taylor's 80
th minute goal was the difference for MBU Men's Soccer in 1-0 victory over William Woods on Saturday night. The Spartans moved into fifth in the AMC standings and will a chance to move to fourth on Tuesday at Williams Baptist.
There was nothing fancy about it on Saturday night at Spartan Field. Despite
dominating possession and scoring chances, the clinical finishing continued to elude the Spartans. Finally, off a
Reece Kral corner kick in the 80
th minute,
Richie Taylor converted a header via a flick-on from
Rasmus Svensson.
William Woods failed to record a shot on goal for the duration of the match. The Spartans, conversely, had eight on 20 attempts. The match featured 42 fouls and five yellow cards between the two sides.
Powered by the center back pairing of Taylor and
Ross Wilson, Missouri Baptist recorded its fifth clean sheet of the season. Taylor earned 'Man of the Match' honors.
"I thought we could have been better in the final third tonight," noted Head Coach
Jake Alvernia. "We created enough but didn't finish and it's been an issue lately. We'll regroup and appreciate a hard-fought and needed three points."
The Spartans will head to Walnut Ridge, Ark. on Tuesday for meeting with Williams Baptist. The regular season will conclude next Saturday with senior night at Spartan Field against No. 6 Columbia.
