ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's wrestling beat Fontbonne University in season opener on Wednesday night behind five falls to win 35-10.
 
After a double forfeit at 101-pounds, Ana Bradshaw and Jessica Corredor kicked off the dual winning via forfeit at the 109 and 116-pound weight classes. Making her Spartan debut at 123 pounds in an exhibition match, freshman Riley White kicked off the contested matches by taking down and pinning her opponent in the first period.
 
After a forfeit for the Spartans at 130-pounds, Lindsay Mills received a forfeit at the 136-pound weight class putting the Spartans ahead 15-10 at the halfway point.
 
At the 143-pound and the 155-pound matches two more Spartan freshman made their debut. Heather Achterberg scored four points on a feet-to-back exchange and pinned her opponent during the first period of the 143-pound bout. In the 155-pound bout Josette Partney cruised during the first period picking up three takedowns to give herself a 6-2 lead at the break. In the second period she stuck her opponent giving the Spartans a 25-10 lead heading into the final two matches.
 
Tiyahna Askew surrendered two push outs to fall behind 2-0 early in the 170-pound match-up but she clearly wasn't warmed up yet. Askew then threw her opponent twice securing two 4-point feed-to-back throws and pinned her opponent during the first period of action.
 
Freshman Kaylee Gross was the last Spartan to make her debut and competed in final match of the night at 191-pounds. Gross made sure it was a night to remember by pinning her opponent to more than lock up the dual 35-10 for the Spartans.
 
Following the contest Jessica Gutierrez, Emma Schreiber, and Shania Gowan all competed in an exhibition match winning via fall.
 
MBU women's wrestling will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 6^th at the Falcon Invite in Wichita, Kan.
