LATE GOAL SECURES MEN’S SOCCER VICTORY OVER BRESCIA

ST. LOUIS – An 88th minute goal by Kristian Dimitrov gave Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer (7-4) a 1-0 non-conference victory over Brescia University (8-7-1) on Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field.

Chances for both sides were few and far between for most of the day. The Spartans had their best opportunity in the 58th minute when Brescia goalkeeper Ruben Burgos stoned Dom Smith from close range. The rebound was put over the goal by Jack Carney.

Brescia attempted just three shots all game on Spartan goalkeeper Wessel Berenschot, none of which came in the second half. MBU had more possession and more chances in the final 45 and finally cashed in as the clock wound down under three minutes.

From deep in his own half, Richie Taylor blasted a clearance over everyone's head into Bearcat territory. Kristian Dimitrov won a footrace with the Brescia defender, who could not stay on his feet. That allowed the Spartan sophomore a breakaway which he calmly finished off past the goalkeeper Burgos.

Dimitrov's third goal of the year held up as the winner to move MBU to 7-4 overall. Brescia saw a four-game winning streak come to an end as they dropped to 8-7-1.

The Spartans return to AMC play next Tuesday in a critical matchup with Lyon College (3-2-1, 2-0 AMC). Kickoff in Batesville is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
