WOMEN’S SOCCER ROLLS PAST LYON

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer rediscovered its winning formula on Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Lyon on the road in Arkansas. Now with only one conference game left in the regular season, the Spartans are in good position to host the AMC Quarterfinals as a top four seed.

It took less than three minutes on Tuesday for the visiting Spartans to grab the lead. Off a long pass from Lea Mason into the penalty area, Mara George was able to bring the ball under control and slot it home past Scots' goalkeeper (and reigning NAIA Player of the Week) Jena Vavasseur. It was the third goal of the year for George, the freshman from Fort Zumwalt North HS.

The one-goal lead held until just after the restart for the second half. In the 48th minute, Gianna Gore was tripped in the box by a Lyon defender and the referee pointed to the spot for an MBU penalty. Maddie Mrazik converted the PK with ease to make it 2-0.

Three minutes after that, Mrazik was involved again, this time from open play. The sophomore cut to the middle of the field and let a shot go from just outside the box. Vavasseur stretched but couldn't reach it and Mrazik had her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Spartans outshot Lyon 9-4 for the day. MBU goalkeeper Hanna Harrison earned her sixth win and third clean sheet of the split season with a four-save effort.

With their first win of the spring, the Spartans improved to 6-4 overall and 6-2 in the AMC. After meeting No. 24 Missouri Valley in a non-conference tilt at Spartan Field on March 24, MBU will close out the regular season at Stephens on March 27.
