SPARTANS ROUT HARRIS-STOWE IN THEIR FIRST CONFERENCE GAMES

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Missouri Baptist took their first two wins of the conference season on Friday with a pair of blowout wins against Harris-Stowe State University. The pitching staff did not allow a run in either game, beating their cross-town foes 30-0 in game one and 22-0 in game two.

Madalyn Bone and Jordan Corby kicked started the offense to lead off game one collecting a walk and then a single. It started a chain of events that led to an 11-run top of the first to give MBU the early advantage.

The women continued to bring the offense in the following innings, posting 11 more in the second, four in the third, and four in the fourth. When it was all said and done, the Spartans had collected 19 hits and 30 runs total.

Corby paced the offense with four hits in five tries and eight runs batted in. Bone had four RBIs followed by Kaitlyn Chadwick and Sydney Berry with three each. In the circle, Shelby Sievers collected her second win with three shutouts. Ally Dunaway slammed the door shut with two scoreless innings in relief.

Game two had a similar plotline. With Haley Tate in the circle, the Spartans gave her a 12-run lead through the first three innings. The Eureka, Missouri native kept the Hornets off the board allowing no baserunners through three innings with seven strikeouts.

Missouri Baptist posted 10 more runs in the fourth inning before Dunaway closed the book on a combined, shortened perfect game. Dunaway did not allow a baserunner in her two innings of work, finishing off Friday with a 22-0 win.

Allison Pingel continued her hot 2021 with three hits and three RBIs that included her two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Bone and Corby also collected three RBIs followed closely by Ellie Wessel, Haley Tate, and Sydney Berry with two.

Next up on the schedule is Lyon College in another American Midwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Spartans are playing at home with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
