MARSHALL, Mo. – The season opener for MBU Women's Soccer did not go as planned on Tuesday night. The trip to Marshall, Mo. for a matchup with No. 21 Missouri Valley ended in a 5-0 defeat.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the 10
th minute and doubled the lead less than a minute later on an own goal by the Spartans. They would add one more before the halftime whistle in the 34
th minute.
In the 56
th minute, a Valley free kick was spilled in front of goal and the rebound put away. The home side topped it off with a fifth and final marker 20 minutes later.
Ashton Lindsley made the start in goal for the Spartans and collected six saves.
Hanna Harrison came on for the final 30 minutes and finished with two saves on three shots on goal. Offensively,
Mara George had both of Mo. Bap's two shots on net.
The Spartans (0-1) return to action on Friday against another opponent from the Heart of America Athletic Conference. They'll visit Culver-Stockton in the second of a four-game road trip to start the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm in Canton, Mo.
