ST. LOUIS – MBU Men's Soccer (3-6, 0-1 AMC) finished off the non-conference schedule on Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over Culver-Stockton (Mo.).
Louie Perez notched his second and third goals of the season while
Rasmus Svensson and
Kristian Dimitrov each tallied their first.
Svensson opened the scoring in the 15
th minute. He was played in on a breakaway by a header from Perez. The native of Versoix, Switzerland took one touch and deposited his inaugural goal as a Spartan.
In the second half, Perez picked up his second of the season from the penalty spot. Three minutes after the restart, a cross from
Richie Taylor ricocheted off the hand of a Wildcats' player inside the penalty area and the former Pattonville HS standout converted to double the MBU lead.
Perez then added a second goal -- this one from open play -- and brought his point total for the night to five in the 61
st minute.
Cullen Barr launched a long throw-in attempt into the Culver box.
Richie Taylor got just enough of a head on it to deflect it into the path of Perez who hammered it home at the back post.
The scoring was completed by
Kristian Dimitrov in the 78
th minute. Right back Brendan McCallister played forward
Brandon Burton into space down the right wing. Burton delivered a perfect cross to Dimitrov who was able tap it home from the six-yard box.
"I'm really happy with the boys' performance tonight," noted Head Coach
Jake Alvernia. "We rotated a bit and we were able to give a few extra guys a chance to come in."
The Spartans were dominant at both ends of the field on Wednesday, outshooting CSC by a wide margin. Led by center backs
Richie Taylor and
Ross Wilson, MBU held the Wildcats to just six shot attempts with only one needing to be saved by goalkeeper
Wessel Berenschot.
"Rasmus was brilliant again coming off Saturday's performance, but Louie and Ross share the 'Man of the Match' tonight. Louie was very good going forward and probably should have had his hat trick. Ross was lights out in the backfield tonight. Nice to get a win and a shutout."
The Spartans have now won three of their last four heading into Saturday's meeting with Health Sciences & Pharmacy. They'll look to even their AMC record with a 7 pm kickoff at Spartan Field.
