Box Score BATESVILLE, Ark. – Missouri Baptist Men's Basketball returned from a 20-day hiatus to thrash Lyon College 90-62 on the road in Arkansas on Thursday night. The Spartans (11-4, 3-0 AMC) will finish a season-long six-game road stretch on Saturday against rival Columbia (8-9, 2-1 AMC).
Lyon kept it close with the Spartans until a seven-minute scoring drought in the first half signaled the beginning of the end. MBU turned a 12-12 tie into a 28-14 advantage. The Spartans shot a
blistering 64.3% (18-28) in the first half, including 9-13 from 3PT.
Though they came back down to earth from behind the three-point line in the second half, the damage had long been done. Lyon briefly cut the deficit to 19 before a driving layup by
Tyrell Andrews moved it right back to 21. Another 10-0 run for MBU followed to push the lead up to as many as 29 (80-51).
Six of the eight Spartans in uniform finished in double figures led by
Brendon Hardy with 20.
Ryan Pollard and
Tyrell Andrews had 12 points apiece. Pollard also pulled down six boards and blocked two shots.
Mujtaba Alkhaldi set a new career-high with 11 (5-6 FG).
In the rebound category, the Spartans were led by a somewhat unlikely source. Point guard
Jadis White had seven to go along with 10 points and five assists. The rebounds total tied a career-high for the former Chaminade standout.
As a team, the Spartans turned the ball over just six times – a season-low. The 28-point margin of the victory was the 10
th double-digit win out of 11 so far this season.
At 3-0 now in the American Midwest Conference, MBU will get its toughest test of the season on Saturday at Columbia. Tip time at the Southwell Complex is scheduled for 3 pm.
