LOUISVILLE, KY. – Missouri Baptist women's wrestling kicked off the spring semester ready for multiple top-ranked battles at the NWCA National Duals. Although the Spartans only won one of their three duals, MoBap got an early look at some of top NAIA competition and proved they could compete.
Winning each of her three bouts, sophomore
Jessica Corredor's biggest win came in the first round against Indiana Tech. Corredor, currently ranked 12
th at 109-pounds, had a tall task ahead of her against fourth ranked Tehani Soares. The Spartan did not disappoint as she picked apart her opponent earning the tech fall, 12-2. Corredor would then receive a forfeit victory against Missouri Valley College before finishing her day with a 10-0 tech fall over Kassidy Leiszler of Baker University.
Five different Spartans picked up two wins over the three duals. At 101-pounds,

Malaicka Pierre-Louis got the nod for the Spartans at 116-pounds and put together an impressive run. After a first-round loss to 19

In her final match of the day, pitted up against the ninth ranked grappler from Baker University; Pierre-Louis came out firing, sticking Katherine Heath only one minute into the bout.
Coming one takedown shy of a perfect 3-0 day at 123-pounds was

The Spartan fell via decision 12-11, coming up just shy of pulling off the upset. Ortiz put the 123-pound weight class on notice with her performance this weekend and looks to be in the mix at the national tournament later this season.
In the 155-pound weight class
Tiyahna Askew also put together a 2-1 record while facing stout competition. Askew put away her opponent from Indiana Tech with a first period pin before facing her first of two ranked opponents. Missouri Valley's 16

Askew's only loss of the day came at the hands of Baker University's seventh ranked 170-pounder who also changed weight classes for this tournament.
The last Spartan to pick up two wins over the three duals was junior,

The Spartans forfeited two weight classes in each of the three duals, as they were without ninth ranked 143-pounder
Heather Achterberg and 13

Without a full lineup MoBap dropped their opening round dual 32-16 against (11) Indiana Tech before defeating (RV) Missouri Valley College 30-20 in the first round of the consolation bracket. In their final dual of the tournament during the second round of the consolation bracket, (9) Baker University defeated the Spartans 27-18 ending their tournament.
