Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Joel Devick

SPARTANS SHRUG OFF MUSTANG COMEBACK IN OVERTIME FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

CONWAY, Ark. – In just its second overtime game of the season, Missouri Baptist women's basketball came away from the tough confines of Reddin Fieldhouse with a 72-67 OT win against Central Baptist. The Spartans' resolve was tested throughout as they saw a big lead become smaller and smaller until 40 minutes of gametime was not enough to determine a winner.

MBU (15-11, 12-4 AMC) came flying out of the gate and built a 16-point advantage by the end of the first quarter. CBC (12-13, 4-11 AMC) didn't panic and slowly chipped away at that lead over the rest of the game to set up a thrilling finish to regulation. After the Lady Mustangs took their first lead at 59-58 with just over a minute left in the fourth, a Tionne Taylor 3-pointer and another basket by CBC ensured that five extra minutes of basketball would be needed to.

Mobap's first quarter 6-of-13 field goal rate of 46.2% fell back down to earth and was just 25.7% over the remaining 30 minutes. The Spartans turned things up in overtime, however, and dominated the extra frame. The visitors outscored CBC 11-6 to lock up a season sweep of the Lady Mustangs.

Taylor had another strong offensive game with 20 points and six rebounds, but the Spartans were led by graduate senior Rose Wassef: 21 points, a new career high, with four made 3-pointers, three rebounds two assists, and two steals was the Lakeland, Florida native's statline.

Guard Lauren Ebert was the only Spartan to register a block. She totaled three rejections along with 11 rebounds and six assists to lead the team in those categories as well. Murray State transfer Jalexis Russell was the third MBU player in double figures with 10 points off the bench.

With 12 conference triumphs this season, Missouri Baptist has now equaled its league win total from a year ago. The Spartans will have two games left with the chance at surpassing that mark. The first of those two comes next Thursday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 in the final regular season road game for MBU against William Woods.
