OFFENSE ROLLS AS MBU SMOTHERS CLARKE IN FIRST KCAC ACTION

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Eighth-ranked Missouri Baptist women's lacrosse finally opened conference play up on Thursday afternoon with a 24-3 dismantling of Clarke University behind some stellar Spartan offensive performances.

Mobap improved to 4-2 on the season and scored its first KCAC win from the trip to Dubuque. It was offense aplenty for MBU with eight different players finding the back of the cage. The Spartans rattled off three goals to start things off before the Pride scored two of the next three to make it 4-2 MBU. From that point with 5:38 remaining in the first quarter until the end of the half, the Spartans would score 11 unanswered and build a 15-2 advantage heading to the locker room.

Clarke scored the first goal after the intermission, but MBU continued to pour it on and ended the game on a  nine-goal run to complete the rout. The visitors only missed on 10 of 34 shots, surrendered only seven turnovers, and caused seven Pride turnovers.

Leading point scorers for Mobap were coincidentally the first three goal scorers of the game as Ashley Avery (nine points), Chayleb Deves (seven points) and Jordan Haeusser (five points) went 1-2-3 in the box score. Avery poured in a magnificent five goals and four assists, outdoing her single game career highs by two goals and four points. Deves went for four and three, and Haeusser slotted home five goals for the second game this season. So far, the three have accounted for 46 of the team's 80 goals this campaign.

Other notable Spartan performances included Brianna Fischer (three goals), Caroline Karr (two goals, two assists), Lydia Cornett (two goals, two assists) and MacKaylee Miller (two goals, one assist).

Missouri Baptist will face a stiffer test in just a few days with another trip to the Hawkeye state's Mississippi river banks. Up next is more KCAC action in a tough matchup with (RV) St. Ambrose on Saturday, March 19th at 1:00 PM.
