SPARTANS FEND OFF BEES WITH CAREER DAY FROM SHAW

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Fresh off an offensive explosion for their first conference win, No. 8 Missouri Baptist women's lacrosse managed to fend (RV) St. Ambrose off 11-9 in the second game of its Iowa road trip.

The Spartans were quick to establish a lead on the Fighting Bees behind goals from juniors Brianna Fischer and Kamryn Bell halfway through the first quarter. The final minute of the first is where things erupted, as three goals were scored in a 54 second period, with midfielder Chayleb Deves registering back-to-back goals at 57 and 22 seconds remaining. St. Ambrose leading scorer Maddie Wiltrout would beat the buzzer with three ticks on the clock remaining to make it 4-1 going to the second.

A 2-2 second period for the two sides would leave the Spartans up 6-3 at the break. The third period would go similarly, with both sides trading goals until senior Jordan Haeusser scored her second goal during a man-up opportunity after a Bees yellow card in the final minute of the third frame to win the period, 3-2. It marks Haeusser's sixth multi goal game of the season.

The Bees would make things nervy for the Spartans with three straight goals to cut it to a one-goal MBU advantage, but clutch goals from Lydia Cornett and a fourth and final one from Deves was enough to seal a third straight Mobap win against St. Ambrose. Both sides' defensive effort was evident throughout, with no player showing it more than Spartan goalkeeper Amelia Shaw. The junior from St. Louis saved 15 shots for a new single-game career high.

Other notable Spartan performances included Natalie Patrick (four ground balls, three caused turnovers) and MacKaylee Miller (one goal).

Missouri Baptist will have another short turnaround, playing its third game in five days when it welcomes University of Saint Mary to Spartan Field in a postponed KCAC matchup on Monday, March 21st at 4:00 PM.
